The Multi-skills: It’s a learning process event aims to deliver a range of ten activities. The events team believe it is important to design a series of different multi-skills activities that can be adapted easily by teachers and allow for the child to develop their motor skills and mental capacity within a safe environment.
To try and achieve this each activity has been carefully selected and developed further to cater for different ability levels and focuses upon a specific skill (such as spacial awareness or hand eye co-ordination). The event aims to go further than just on the day attendance and will look to provide a platform for teachers to discuss and gain an insight into the multi-skills spectrum by creating potential links between subjects and the creation of a resource pack for teachers to take away from the event as a future guide for sessions.
Based on National Curriculum aims we feel it is necessary to calculate suitable goals for this Multi-Skills project. In doing so, we have considered the SMART principle while designing Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-based aims that coincide with those of the National Curriculum for Physical Education.
Our Year 1 Multi Skills Festival aims are to hit the targets set out by the national curriculum but to also bring an inclusive environment within our three events that are taking place, “the purpose of the PE curriculum is to provide: the range of tasks, contexts and environments so that an individual’s skills can be tuned, adjusted, adapted, modified and refined. The challenge of teaching is to provide information, ideas and encouragement for each pupil to become competent and confident in each new task, context and environment and then extend them again” (QCA 1999:1)
